KEY IMPROVEMENTS IN OUR NEW TENTATIVE COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT
CUPE 815 bargaining committee has reached a tentative agreement with Halton Healthcare, and the committee is recommending it to members for ratification. The ratification vote will take place on December 2nd 2024.
We are happy about the tentative agreement as it largely mirrors the Central Agreement achieved by other CUPE hospital workers who recently received an 6% wage bump over two years, in addition to other significant improvements. There are no concessions. The new Local 815 agreement is two stages.
Stage One – Central Award. All wage increases, adjustments and other monetary improvements provided for in this agreement shall be retroactive to the effective date of such increase or adjustment. Retro pay will be paid within 90 days of ratification.
Wage increases of 6% (Sept 2023 to Sept 2025)
o 3% effective Sept 2023 to Sept 2024
o 3% effective Sept 2024 to Sept 2025
Increases shift premiums (Effective May 18 2024)
o Weekend Shift Premium increased to $3.14/hour (increased from $2.77)
o New Night Shift premium 2300-0700 of $2.98/hour
Benefit improvements (Effective date of Ratification)
o Massage therapy goes up to $450 with no per-visit cap
o Chiropractor goes up to $450
o Introduction of an annual $100 Health Care Spending Account to all active employees.
o Orthodontics at 50/50 co-insurance of two thousand dollars ($2000) lifetime maximum
o Benefits until 80th Birthday if working.
Stage Two - Within thirty (30) days of the issuance of the CUPE Local Issues Award (expected sometime mid-2025), the Employer agrees to meet with the Local to re-open the Collective Agreement to negotiate the local provisions, If the Parties fail to reach agreement on any of the issues in dispute, they agree to proceed to Interest Arbitration. The following issues are not currently agreed to, but will be subject to a contract re-opener, or possible interest arbitration.
RPN hourly wage adjustment to $40.78, retroactive to September 29, 2023
$5 hourly increase to all trades, retroactive to September 29, 2023
Uniform allowance increases $200 for FT and $160 for PT; effective January 1, 2025, FT increase to $225.
Effective October 1, 2024, increase the preceptor/mentorship premiums from $0.60 to $2.00.
Increase Footwear allowance to $150 effective date of ratification.
Additional local wage adjustments per tabled union grid proposal, retroactive to September 29, 2023.
The gains we have negotiated have only been possible due to the immense resources CUPE has allocated for a range of supports including research, legal, and campaigning. The credit for these achievements also goes to healthcare workers and allies who have raised their voices for better treatment of healthcare staff.
